How much does the SERU test cost?

The SERU test costs £40, and a resit costs £30, for PHV and taxi.

How you pay
- PHV: you pay online when you book, in your TfL customer account.
- Taxi: you pay on the day, by card. American Express is not accepted. (TfL, Notice 06/25)
- New PHV drivers usually take SERU, the topographical test and the English test on the same day. Each one has its own fee.
The real cost of failing
A resit costs £30, and you also wait for a new date before you can get your licence. PHV applicants normally have 3 attempts (TfL driver policy v6.0). After the third fail, TfL normally refuses the application, and a new application costs £138 (TfL, Notice 05/26). Taxi drivers have no limit. See what happens if you fail.

How much does the SERU test cost?
The SERU test costs £40, and a resit costs £30, for PHV and taxi. These fees apply since 9 March 2026 (TfL, Notice 05/26). You pay TfL.
Is the taxi SERU the same price?
Yes. Since 9 March 2026, the taxi SERU costs £40 and a retest £30, the same as PHV. Before that, both cost £36, with a resit at £16, so older pages may show those numbers.
Can I get help with the cost?
If you have a disability or health condition, the Access to Work scheme may help with costs. Ask TfL about reasonable adjustments before you book.
Do I pay SeruCoach for the test?
No. We do not sell the test and we cannot book it. You pay TfL directly. Our practice tests are separate.
