Your new PHV driver's licence has a condition: you must have extra medical checks. What could happen if you do not follow this condition?
Answer: A (TfL may revoke your PHV driver's licence.)
A licence can come with conditions, such as extra medical checks for a medical condition. The letter sent with your licence explains them. TfL may write to remind you, but if you do not follow a condition, TfL may revoke your licence. Nothing waits for your renewal. (Section 1 · page 6)
Watch outA reminder letter is not the only thing TfL can do. Breaking a condition can cost you your licence.
Between your medical examinations, which of these must you tell TfL about immediately? Select two answers.
In the test, you need all of them for the mark.
Answer: A (You develop diabetes), B (You start prescription medicine that may affect your driving)
A new medical condition that may affect your driving must be reported to TfL straight away. Diabetes and prescription medicine that may affect your driving are both on the handbook's list. A new home address must be reported within 21 days, and a parking ticket with no points does not need to be reported. (Section 1 · page 8; Section 1 · page 9)
Watch outMedicine can count too, not only illnesses. A change of address has its own time limit: 21 days.
When you move, you are by law to tell the DVLA. The address on your PHV driver's should the one on your DVLA licence.
Answer: space 1: required, space 2: licence, space 3: match
When you move, the law says you must tell the DVLA, and it sends you a new driving licence. The address on your PHV driver's licence should match the one on your DVLA licence. (Section 1 · page 9)
Watch outIn British English, 'licence' is the noun and 'license' is the verb.
Notice to PHV applicants: the English language requirement
To work as a London PHV driver, you need a licence from TfL. Before TfL can give you one, you must show that your English is at B1 level or higher. B1 is a level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Your English is checked in two parts. For speaking and listening, you take a test in a TfL building under exam conditions. For reading and writing, TfL uses your result in the Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding Assessment (SERU).
Please do not confuse these with the Topographical Skills Assessment. That is a separate test. It checks whether you can choose and plan a route, read a map and find locations. A TfL examiner runs it under exam conditions, at a centre that TfL has approved.
The English requirement and the Topographical Skills Assessment are two of several requirements for a PHV driver's licence.
Jon's English is one level below B1. According to the notice, can TfL give him a PHV driver's licence?
Answer: A (No, his English is below the level TfL needs)
Paragraph 1 says you must show that your English is at B1 level or higher before TfL can give you a licence. A level below B1 is not enough, and B1 applies to speaking, listening, reading and writing. (Passage, paragraphs 1–2; Section 1 · page 6)
Watch out'B1 or higher' means B1 is the lowest level accepted.
